OHAKUNE NOTES

DANCE AND EUCHRE Tliero was only a fair attendance at the dance held at the Junction on Friday evening:, no doubt owing to the inclemency of the weather. The dance was in aid of the Junction candidate for ’ Miss Waimarino” compefi. tion, and the music was supplied by the Waimarino Silver Band. Peerless Trio, and Mr. Ruff. Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Shrodden. Mr. J. Colman ably fulfilled the duties of master of ceremonies. The jazz competition was won by Mr. Susrden and Miss Ashley. A good exhibition of the Yale Blues was given by Mr. and Mrs. C. Good, who received great applause. X dainty supper, donated by the ladies, was partaken of and much enjoyed. A coin afternoon was held last week by the St. John’s Guild. A very pleasant time was spent by those present. Musical ietms were given by Miss I. Tliim and Miss V. Clemett, and were much appreciated. The caudle lighting competition, which caused much amusement, was won by Mrs. J. P. Cottier. The jumbled names competition was won bv Mrs. Stanley. At the house of Mr. and Mrs. Standish last evening a euchre party in aid of St. John’s Church Guild was held. In spite of the bad weather there was a very good attendance. Miss E. Standish won the women’s prize and Mr. Wallace tlie men’s Miss Larkin and the Rev. P. A. StanleV won the consolation prizes. A daintv supper brought the evening to a close. KING COUNTRY NEWS TENNIS CLUB MEETS The president, Mr. A. H. Delaney, was in the chair at the annual meeting of the E. and B. Tennis Club, at Ongarue. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr. H. Valder; president, Mr. A. H. Delaney; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. B. Collier, A. E. McCracken, G. Hovey, J. S. Awdey, F. Sims, and T. Maule; secretary, Mr. D. J. McCracken; committee, Mesdames Maule, Grandison, McCracken, Luaovicy, and Messrs. Meehan, Pefffers, Howard and the president and secretary, ex officio; selection committee, Mrs. Meehan, Messrs. W. Peffers and D. J. McCracken. At the last meeting of the Taumarunui Rod and Gun Club it was resolved to request the Minister of Infernal Affairs to remove the restriction on spoon fishing in the Ongarue River, in accordance with his promise made last year. It was also decided to ask the Auckland Acclimatisation Society to have ova for this district hatched at Kakahi, and thus minimise the risk of mortality, which, it was reported, amounted to about half on a recent consignment. The Auckland Savage Club will provide tlie programme at the next korero, on September 21, of the TaumarunUi Club. At its last korero the Taumarunui Club was given a highly interesting lecturette on “The ThreePly Industry,” by Mr. W. Maud, manager of Ellis and Burnand’s works at Mantinui, and items were given by the Savage Orchestra and Savages H. Brinkman, Keller, Richards, Calderwood, Brown, Ashurst, Hughes, Hiskens and Pittams. Savage E. Edwards presided. The King Country Gun Club held a very well-attended shoot, the various events resulting:—Sweepstake, and J. Asher medal, 10 birds: G. Bretherton (Ohakune) 1, H. Gago (Kaitieke) 2, F. McFadyen(Kaitieke) 3. Six-bird sweepstake: F. McFadyen, 6 breaks, 1; G. Bretherton, 5 breaks, 2; G. Geary, 3 breaks, 3. Six-bird sweepstake: G. Bretherton. 4 breaks, 1; L. Persens. G. Geary, F. Sou thee and A. Davey tied for second place with three breaks, but a shoot-off was not attempted owing to the failing light.
