MR. KELLOGG BACK HOME
HIGH HOPES ABOUT PACT NOT A POLITICAL ISSUE (United. P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Monday. The United States Secretary of State, Mr. F. B. Kellogg, arrived on Monday from Paris. He declared that there was every indication that the Peace Pact would be accepted by every nation in the world. In response to a question whether the Franco-British naval compromise was consistent with the anti-war treaty, he declared: “Yes. I do not think it has anything to do with the Pact whatever.”
He expressed the -strongest belief that the Pact would be kept out of the American political campaign. “I am sure Mr. Hoover does not wish to make the treaty a party issue,” said lie.
He stated that pressure of time had prohibited a visit to England. The Irish trip was in the nature of a return of the visit of President Cosgrave to America. Mr. Kellogg expressed the belief that the United States should have more merchant-marine ships.
