FIRE BRIGADE’S REPORT
WORK AT PUKEKOHE (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Monday. The quarterly meeting of the Pukekohe Fire Board was held to-day, Mr. John Routly presiding. The connecting of the fire siren to the telephone exchange was left to Mr. H. M. Didsbury and the chairman, and it was decided to offer the old siren for sale. The inspector of fire brigades, Mr. T. T. Hugo, in a report, referred to the efficiency of the brigade and the need for an up-to-date fire station. He also intimated that the extension of water mains had not been proceeded with yeC The chairman was requested to arrange, for the preparation of plans and estimates for the new fire station. In connection with the water reticulation, the chairman stated that a poll of ratepayers was to be taken in about two months’ time. The Franklin Electric-Power Board offerel the use of its poles for carrying the fire alarm system at Is 6d a pole a year, and advised it would not accept responsibility when false alarms were occasioned by its employees while in the cdurse of duty. The superintendent intimated that the new siren had been heard six miles distant.
In view of the recent outbreak, it was decided to recommend the Borough Council to introduce a by-law for the insulation of pipes from hot water services.
