House Burned Down Two children had a narrow escape yesterday afternoon when a six-roomed house at Maromaku, north of Whangarei, owned by Mr. J. Callaghan, was destroyed by fire. Mr. and Mrs. Calaghan were in the milking shed when the fire was first noticed and they were only just in time to save the children. The fire is believed to have started in the washhouse, and nothing was saved except some bedding. *= * * Planning North Shore That the four North Shore boroughs meet to confer on the question of town-planning was a suggestion brought forward by Mr. E. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport, at the conclusion of yesterday’s meeting of the North Shore Boroughs Water Board. Ho said it had been suggested that the four boroughs with the Taka puna and Birkenhead ridings of the Waitemat a County* should form one group in the Auckland scheme. Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna, said his borough had its plans under way, but Mr. A. E. Greenslade, Mayor of Birkenhead, said no action had been taken in his borough. It was left to Mr. Aldridge to convene a meeting when the time seemed ripe. ** * » Drainage at Ellerslie The Onehunga Borough Council, One Tree Hill, Mount Roskill and Mount Wellington Road Boards and the Ellerslie Town Board are being requested by the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board to appoint representatives to attend a conference on September 12 for the purpose of making permanent provision for the drainage of the districts lying within the Manukau Watersheds.
