DECADENT RAILWAY?
CURTAILED SERVICE RESENTED PENROSE-ONEHUNGA LINE “Did anyone ever see any passengers on these trains,” asked Councillor Moor, when a letter was received by the Onehunga Borough Council last evening, from the local retailers’ Association, asking for the council’s support in protesting against the recent curtailment of passenger trains be-tween-Penrose, Te Papapa and Onehunga. It was pointed out that former Onehunga customers living in Penrose and Te Papapa were now forced to travel in motor buses. Councillor Moor said that if it could be shown that anyone ever travelled on this line in the middle of the day he would support the request, but he could not honestly ask the Railway Department to reinstate that were never patronised. However the council decided to support the request.
