CRASHED OVERBRIDGE

CAR PLUNGES INTO RIVER WOMAN’S LUCKY ESCAPE When her car crashed through the railings of a bridge on the Great South Road near Rangiriri on Saturday, and dropped 10 feet into the river, Mrs. Beckham, of Auckland, who was driving, had a lucky escape from death. The car, a two-seater, turned turtle, the bonnet being completely submerged, but a clump of willows held the rear suspended long enough to enable Mrs. Beckham and a passenger to escape. Mrs. Beckham suffered from bruises and shock, but the passenger received light injuries. The car was not damaged to any extent.
