ELLERSLIE DOINGS FINE FOR TRAINING LOMINT PLEASES MOST Pleasant climatic conditions prevailed for training operations at Ellerslio this morning, and the majority of trainers had no hesitation in sending their charges over a few furlongs on number three grass, the going being dead. The sand was also in use, but pace work was confined to nearly all the candidates who used this track. Number Three Grass Thursby and War Officer strode nicely over six furlongs and were doing it easily to record 1.25 4-5. Gold Money, with Optimistic to accompany her, got to the end of half a mile in 53 1-5, with the former going very freely. Bennie was shaken up to finish in advance of Pekatahi at the end of half a mile in 54 1-5, while Phaola travelled over the same ground in 53. A creditable effort went down to Miss Alma>who beat Brampton over a round in 1.49 2-5, the last half-mile taking 57. Miss Alma finished strongly, but Brampton covered a good deal of extra ground, so his performance is not as bad as it appeared. There was very little separating Norval Tea and Critique at the end of four furlongs, the last three taking 40. Lucklaine registered 1.25 1-5 for six furlongs, while Corinax and The Thorn were going well within themselves to record 1.27 2-5 for a similar task. Now At Her Best Golden Wedding is verj* speedy, and she again demonstrated this by striding out freely over six furlongs in 1.21 3-5, the last half-mile taking 54 4-5. She was not asked to extend herself at the finish, and even so the time was improved upon very little by anything else. Bombardcr covered five furlongs in 1-10 1-5, but was allowed to slow up over the last furlong or so. Eager Rose could have done better than the 1.23 2-5 which she recorded for six furlongs, the initial three taking 40 3-5. Sulla was anxious to increase the pace during a half-mile spin, which he covered in 54 2-5. Lomint and Wye jumped off together at the six-furlong post, but half a mile from home Wye was eased up, allowing Lomint to go on and register' 1.21 1-5 for the journey, the last half-mile taking 56. This was the best gallop recorded during the morning. Myola and Gay Cockade were together throughout five furlongs, and finished on terms in 1.12 1-5. ’Chaser and Cup Candidate Beau Cavalier travelled from the six furlongs in 1.26 4-5, while Monetize finished ahead of Bulolo over the same distance in 1.23 3-5, the first three furlongs taking 41 1-5. A Five-horse Bout A quintet to provide an interesting gallop were Master Doon. Golden Krist, Lineroo, Mon Star and Bizarro, who were in company over six furlongs in 1.22. They strode over the first furlong in 13, two in 26, and got to the end of three in 39 2-5, with Master Doon having the best of the gallop at the finish. Golden Krist was close in attendance, and then came Lineroo. Mon Star and Bizarro. Yum Yum and Master Clements had an advantage over Royal Ensign at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. the first three furlongs taking 39 1-5. Parfait Amour sprinted half a mile, j moving attractively to register 52—a fair gallop. Buie Spear and Killute were associated over six furlongs, the last live taking 1.8. There was nothing between them at the end. Several 'others did useful tasks on the grass, but the times were slow. Among those noted were Respirator, Restaurant, Sleepy Sol, Segment, Lido, Hyde Park, Yaqui and Piet. On the Sand Sir Archie and Fern den were sent over half a mile in 51 4-5, and the pair were practically on terms at the finish. It was a pleasing gallop, aval instances how well F. Stenning’s representatives are at present.
A nice piece of work went down to the credit of Good Boy, who moved with plenty of freedom from the five furlongs, taking 1.7 4-5, the last three furlongs occupying 40. The Jumpers Scot Free (O. Edwards) safely accomplished a task over six schooling hurdles, fencing slowly but surely. Llewellyn (E. Garrett) gave a fair display in negotiating four schooling hurdles, but there was room for improvement. Harbour View (R. Olive) did not jump too confidently at several pony hurdles, but with experience he should do better. Piet (H. Dulieu) had a lesson over two schooling hurdles, and he fenced carefully but cleanly. Potoanui (Burgess) and Glenotus (J. Sharkey) were companions in a bout over six schooling hurdles. Both gave a pleasing exhibition. Marble Mount (E. Garrett) was given a lesson over two pony hurdles, but he did not jump as well as on previous occasions. Later he negotiated three schooling hurdles, and his jumping showed a noticeable improvement over these. Four hunters were sent over the steeplechase fences on the flat, and the quartet to receive the lesson were Tago San (E. Garrett), Clockwork (R. Olive), Importer (J. Sharkey) and Rafferty (H. Dulieu). They gave a perfect display. After cantering round the sand, Clockwork, Importer and Rafferty repeated the performance, each candidate giving a dashing exhibition. BACK FROM AUSTRALIA FINAL GALLOPS AT RANDWICK Mithra and Lbrient II returned from Sydney by the Marama this morning. Both look in excellent condition. Mithra has been brought back with the idea of contesting the Avondale Guineas on Monday week. She won at her first start in Australia, and the three or four races she had bn the other side will make her the best conditioned horse in the Avondale classic. The filly was kept right up to the collar at Rand wick, and a few days before leaving (last Tuesday, in fact) she ran six furlongs in 1.185, on the tan, in company with another New Zealander, Concentrate. On the same morning, Lorient II was picked up by In the Shade at the five furlongs on the grass, 40ft from the rails, and recorded 1.5. In the Shade doing the mile in 1.443. Lorient 11. is also to race at Avondale next week, and the big straight there may suit him. Up to the present lie has been a disappointment.
