Reed. 12.19 p.m. LONDON, Sunday. “Within three days of his death Earl Haig sent me a long message from the spirit world,” declared Sir Arthur Conan Doyle* speaking at a crowded meeting of the International Spiritualist Congress in the Queen’s Hall. “I asked his relatives whether they would like to see the message, but received no reply. “Earl Haig was a spiritualist, and the message contained matter inter -
esting to the relatives alone, so I cannot help feeling deeply for Earl Haig in the circumstances.” Sir Arthur exhibited a photograph of Earl Haig’s coffin passing through the London streets, with the dead soldier’s face over the coffin. Sir Arthur added that Joseph Conrad, the novelist, also sent messages to him. “It seems his spirit is uneasy. He wants to link up with the world once more.”
