PHILISTINES CLUB

ANOTHER REVEL A remarkably fine programme was i presented to the members of the Phil- ; istines’ Club on Saturday evening. Airs. AI. AI. AlcCallum, who was in the chair, welcomed the visitors and introduced some of her players, who opened the proceedings with a lively “Tally-Ho” chorus. The programme included songs from Aliss S. Stagpoole (soprano), Aliss Binda Vale (soubrette) and Air. E. Churchouse (baritone). Air. Jim Sharp contributed some humorous sketches and Aliss Alavis Grevatt some enjoyable numbers on the harp. Air. Lambert Harvie, a visitor from England, who has for some time been broadcasting for the 8.8. C., sang several songs. The concluding item was a very delightful one-act play, presented in most unusual fashion, there being no scenery, no furniture, and no properties of any kind, z But all the noises required of the “action” of the play were provided off-stage by a trio whose names were not in the cast. They appeared, however, at the fall of the curtain, laden with their various properties. The whole play was well acted and well produced, and the audience was in a continuous state of merriment, thoroughly appreciating the implied title, “The Play’s the Thing.” The parts were ably taken by Air. H. E. Gillespie, Aliss Jean Gordon, Aliss Alario Gaudin, Aliss Joy Bartley, Air. Alontagu Steel, Air. Jack Gordon and Air. E. Churchouse. The “noises” were supplied by Aliss Feggy Hovey, Air. Athol Buchanan and All*. Fred AlcCallum. After slipper there was an hour of dancing to the enjoyable music of the Ritz Orchestra. Airs. AlcCallum wore a gown of black lace and georgette.
