AMATEUR BILLIARDS

AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP WIN FOR VALENTINE The Auckland Amateur champion- i ship for the Billiards, Ltd., shield, was \ continued on Saturday evening, when \ H. F. Valentine, ex-New Zealand and j Auckland champion, played C. A. Stev- j enson, the King Country champion. There was a large assembly, including a number of women onlookers. Valentine quickly settled down and playing nice all-round billiards, reached the first century mark with a lead of 70 points by means of breaks of 21, 39 and 33. Stevenson was not playing with much confidence in the early stages, but added two 20 breaks to his score. Valentine was playin at his best form and breaks of 39, 41 and 34 gave him a lead of 186 points at the 33rd cue. The game looked hopeless for Stevenson, but he began to give a glimpse of his real form and by means of runs of 23, 51 and 21, evened up the scores and a little later added breaks of 37 and 31, reaching 400 when his opponent was 425. Valentine, however, increased his lead and ran to points, winning an interesting game by 67 points. The final scores were:—H. Valentine, 500 (breaks, 21, 39, 33, 28, 31, 41, 34, 24 and 24); C. A. Stevenson, 433 (breaks 20, 20, 23, 51, 21, 37, 31 and 23). E. V. Roberts will play E. TV. 'Warren to-night.
