GOOD WOOL SEASON

LESS DEMAND FOR FINE GRADES BRADFORD MAN’S VIEWS A good season, with slightly lower prices for fine grades, is predicted for wool by Mr. Fred Hlil, Australian representative of Sir James Hill, Bradford, England. “Although I am no prophet, I expect there will be a drop of 2d a pound on all fine and Merino wools next season,” said Mr. Hill. He is returning to Melbourne, his headquarters, by the Aorangi, after a visit to England. The demand for wool will be on a lower level than last year, he said last evening. Fine wools will be weaker, as the demand in England for fine worsteds has fallen off. Artificial silk is affecting the cotton market more than the wool, said Air. Hill, who added that quite a lot of wool is used in conjunction with the artificial silk. The Yorkshire mills were very slack when he left. This was principally due to the fact that too much machinery was installed during the Russia is now buying her wool direct from the New Zealand and Australian markets, instead of through Germany, said Mr. Hill.

New Zealand is not suited to the growing of fine wools, he added. If she goes on producing the quality she produces at present she will do well. Mr. Hill expects that the coming season will be a good one, despite the fact that wool will not realise last year’s prices.
