FUTURE OF BIRKENHEAD (United P.A.—By Telegraph Copyright) (United Service > LONDON, Thursday. At the request of Mr. Baldwin, the Prime Minister, the Earl of Birkenhead, will take charge of the Foreign Office during the absence at Geneva of Lord Cushendun, who relieved Sir Austen Chamberlain of the portfolio recently pending his recovery from his illness. Lord Birkenhead will not retain office in the Cabinet after the general election, and he wishes to retire much earlier. It is rumoured in the city that he may be the chairman of the Eastern-Marconi merger company.
