CHINA’S £264,780 DEBT
RE-ELECTION QUESTION
(United r.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. GENEVA, Friday. By 44 votes to 4, the Assembly of the League of Nations decided to apply the re-eligibility rules current at the. council elections to non-permanent seats, for which China is at present the only applicant. It was obviously a nasty pill to swallow, to re-elect a Power owing £264,780 in contributions, but lobby opinion reflects the feeling that the Price is worth while, to keep China’s evolution on desirable lines and induce a spirit of moderation In her demands for revisio nof treaties. It may be diflicult to remit the arrears from Canton, but the Chinese delegation does not lack money. Judging by the banquetting which Is going on lavishly in the most expensive hotel, she is making every post a winning one.
