RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM

“HAPPINESS AHEAD” ‘‘Happiness Ahead,” an enjoyable comedy drama, starring Colleen Moore, will be shown at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres.

The story of “Happiness Ahead” centres about an unsophisticated girl from a small town, who becomes the wife of a city cardsharp. Her disillusionment, and the subsequent regeneration of her husband, provide the framework of a plot that is as unique as it is interesting. Edmund Lowe, who plays

opposite Colleen Moore, is provided with an unusually strong role—and he takes full advantage of his opportunities. The players in support represent an admirable example of casting. “Love and Learn,” with the beautiful actress, Esther Ralston in the star role, is the second attraction. “METROPOLIS” AT EDENDALE “Metropolis,” one of the most remarkable pictures ever made, will be shown again this evening at the Edendalo Theatre. “Metropolis” seeks to show what the future will have evolved from the present. A machine-made world, possessing in full measure the material things a mechanical age must inevitably produce, is seen to be lacking in one thing—soul. Enormous buildings, of a futuristic design, so colossal that they dwarf thp human beings that move in shadow at their foot, challenge the mind to say how they have been prepared for the camera. Across steel cobwebs motors glide, while airplanes gracefully glide between the great arches and turn the corners into new arteries of traffic. Beneath, the people crawl like ants, and are of equal relative importance in a land where machinery is God and brawn is at a discount. “The Phantom Flyer,” an aviation story featuring A 1 Wilson, will also be shown, Henry King, who directed “Tolable David,” “The White Sister,” and “Stella Dallas” is to direct “She Goes To War,” from Rupert Hughes’ novel. This production will be released by United Artists. 1
