MR. GIRLING REPLIES

ARCHBISHOP’S CRITICISM CHURCH EMPOWERING BILL J Press Association BLENHEIM, To-day. Interviewed this morning, Mr. W. J. Girling, M.P., replied to a statement of Archbishop Julius in connection with the Church of England Empowering Bill now before the House of Representatives. The Archbishop stated at Christchurch that Mr. Girling was incorrect in stating that he had previously opposed the alteration to fundamentals. In reply Mr. Girling quotes the Archbishop’s address to the General Synod of 1925, when he said that he and others felt that there would he danger to the identity of the Church, and possibly the loss of its property, if anything were done with the fundamental provision of the constitution.
