MANOEUVRES IN RUSSIA BIG SHAM BATTLE SOON (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. noon. RIGA, Thursday. The Leningrad District Council of Trade Unions has sanctioned military manoeuvres, and a sham battle, large bodies of Leningrad workmen, on the evening of September 15. The trade unions are organising two infantry divisions, composed of their members. Chemical warfare units, tanks, and sappers will co-operate, under the direction of M. Tukachevski, commander of the Leningrad military district. It will take place roughly within a five miles ’ radius of Peterhof, the erstwhile summer residence of the Tsar, from which 15,000 excursionists will view operations.
