Petitioner said his wife left him because she did not like the ! country. * * * Bridge Subsidy Too Low Owing to the liability of the Rungitikei County Council in connection with the present Bulls Bridge the council h£s decided that it cannot accept a subsidy from the Highways Board of £3 for £1 for the proposed new structure. The council previously sought a subsidy of £5 foP £l, but only the offer of £ 3 for £1 was forthcoming. Explosive Injures Workman Serious injuries were received by Mr. J. Wear, aged 38. single, employed by the Lands Department at Ruatdngata, when an explosive cliargy fired prematurely. He was seriously burned about the face and shoulders, and had several ribs brokcffi. Some fragments of rock pierced his chest above the heart. He was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition. * * * Roads Under Water During the past few days heavy rainhave been experienced in the Te Kuiti district, and in the town several of the low-lying portions have been inundated. The Mangaokewa River has been in flood, but owing to intervals between the downpours, no extensive damage has been reported. The main road between Pio Plo and Aria has been under water, necessitating the use of connecting cars at either end of the flooded portion of the road. Between Te Kuiti and Pio Pio the flood water covered the road in places, but not to, a sufficient depth to impede motor traffic.
