POWER FOR TRAMS

NEW AGREEMENT DETAILS UNDER CONSIDERATION It was reported to the City Council last evening that negotiations were in hand for a new agreement with Uie Pv.ver Board relating to power for the Auckland tramways. Cr. J. A. C. Allum, tramways chairman, reported that the board had not really attempted to segregate the tramway load from ordinary power, and though the city was supposed to be paying cost price, the board had adopted an arbitrary method of assessing the sum, and this might not actually represent the cost. A simpler basis had been suggested by the board, the idea being that the council gave no minimum guarantee, but when the council’s consumption fell below 18,000,000 in any year it should have the option of paying for 18,000,000 units at standard price, or agree to an increased price for its actual consumption, according to the circumstances. The committee was empowered to negotiate on these lines.
