Wanganui v. Auckland

To-morrow’s Big Rugby Game

Close Contest Expected THE victory achieved by the Wanganui Rugby representatives over North Auckland at Whangarei yesterday will greatly enhance their prospects in the representative match against Auckland at Eden Park to-morrow. Although not the strongest side that Wanganui could send away it is reputed to be strong forward, and with conditions proha lily favouring that style of play the prospects are for a close contest.

On the Auckland side, Jeffries is not ; available as a result of an injured leg, and L. Hook will be playing centre for New Zealand aganist New South Wales at Dunedin. Arnold Berridge, who played second five-eighth in the representative team last season, will fill the inside vacancy, and W. Barclay, the ex-Maori and Hawke’s Bay representative, will play centre. In the halfback position McManus, last season’s rep. half, will be seen back in his old position. Several vacancies also had to be filled as a result of the absence of test men, Fletcher, Fell and Anderson replacing Palmer, A. Knight and Batty. As a curtain-raiser, an Auckland B team* will play a representative side from Northern Wairoa, and a good game should result. Another B team -will also travel to Pukekohe to play a match with South Auckland. The Auckland team to play Wanganui is as follow’s:— Pullback: Paewai. Threequarters: Minns, W. Barelav, R. Hook. Five-eighths: Berridge, Jenkin. Halfback: McManus. Rover: Linton. Front row: Fletcher, Finlayson. Middle row: L. Knight, Wanoa, Cathcart. Back row: Fell, Anderson.
