AUCKLAND ON TOP

GATHERING OUTSIDE TITLES THREE CUPS ARRIVE Three championship cups came to Auckland last week from outside open tournaments.

H. B. Lusk collected the championship at Rotorua, hi 6 home club being Aliddlemore, while J. Hockin of Titirangi had to make space in his bag for the North Auckland Cup, won at Whangarei. Rotorua ran a “B” championship for the second sixteen best

gross scores, and R. M. Dacre. Titirangi, won with fair ease. Lusk’s win is described in another article: Hockin went to the last green in Whangarei with Thomson, who was defending the title. Thomson was 2 up at the Bth, but Hockin played the better golf. After

that his misfortunes, however, included four putts on one green an a stymie on another. So far few Aucklanders have entered for the Whangarei tournament, but the course is a delightful one, something after the style of Rotorua, and Whangarei hopes that Hockin’s carrying off the cup this year will provide good propaganda. R. AI. Dacre is one of the most promising of the younger players. On th r 10—8 mark he appears to be somewhat over-handicapped, and his golf at Kotorua was nearer 6 —5. As yet he licks steadiness and philosophy.
