Sharing of Reward for Slayer Gives Los Angeles a Problem

£5,500 FOR CATCHING HICKMAN

(United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (United Service)

Reed. 10.30 a.m. LOS ANGELES, Wed. During the height of the Hickman excitement, after that youth had foully slain the girl, Marion Parker, daughter of a banker, Los Angeles went wild, offering rewards for his apparent apprehension. When it was finally boiled down, the actual fund amounted to £5,500. So many people contributed toward the tracking of him that the apportioning of the reward became a difficult task. The final solution w-as that a coni-

mittee of business men took charge, and secured agreements from ev;-y----one concerned, that all would abide by the decision. The committee then announced the awards. The two policemen who actually arrested him get £1.600 each. The haberdasher who sold Hickman a hat and recognised the number on one of Mr. Parker’s 20-dollar bills, gets £SOO, while a similar amount goes to the gasoline service station j operator, who sold Hickman some sa m t and carefully watched his route.
