“LABOUR WILL PREVAIL"

PROPHECY OF LEADER “REDS’’ NOT WANTED British Official Wireless. Reed. noon. RUGBY, Wednesday. Speaking at the Trade Union Congress to-day, Mr. Arthur Henderson, the Chief Whip of the Labour Party, predicted the success of the Labour Party at the coming general election. He said: “The coming months will see Labour’s greatest political adventure.” If he read the signs of the times correctly, Labour now stood at the threshold of power and responsibility. It was all the more important to maintain close contact between the industrial and political sides. They must endeavour to harmonise and coordinate their respective policies. A feature of yesterday’s proceedings was the adoption by an overwhelming majority of a resolution moved by the Railway Clerks’ Associtaion instructing the general council to take steps to purge theetrades union movement of the Communist element. Mr. J. H. Thomas, M.P., secretary of the National .Union of Railwaymen, in an outspoken address, aimed at Mr. A. J. Cook, general secretary of the Miners’ Federation, referred to the decline of 2,000,000 trades union members. He asked: “Can you blame the men for refusing to join the union when they are told that th€*ir leaders have sold them and cannot be trusted?” Mr. Herbert Smith, president of the. Miners’ Federation. spoke strongly against the Communists.
