Seaplane Sets Out On Great Land Trip

LONGEST EVER TRIED THRILLS AT THE TAKE-OFF (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. OTTAWA, Wednesday. The longest cross-country seaplane flight ever attempted was started on Wednesday, when Squadron-Leader A. E. Godfrey, of the Canadian Air Force, accompanied by SergeantMajor Graham as mechanic, hopped off for Lake Cormorant, Manitoba, and thence for Vancouver. He carries the first air-mail to the J Pacific Coast. The take-off of the big Fairchild monoplane fKmi Lake Descliene was thrilling. The pilot was unable to make sufficient headway to lift the machine from the water. The official launch rushed across the path, leaving a swell riding high, which lifted the ship on to the lower part of the floats. The pilot finally lifted the machine.

He will make the flight in two hops of 3,000 miles, returning over a 6,000-miles jaunt across Canada.
