MAJESTIC

“THE PATSY” TO-MORROW A most entertaining programme will be presented at the Majestic Theatre to-morrow evening. Not only is the programme composed of a splendid photoplay, but the musical and supporting items are of the usual high standard of Majestic entertainment. The main pictorial attraction will be “The Patsy,” a story of an American Cinderella, starring the popular character actress, Marion Davies.

She plays the role of Patricia, the snub-nosed “Patsy” of the Harrington family, which is typical of the great American middle-class, who has all the Cinderella jobs thrust on her, while her sister Grace, the pretty vamp, gets all the favours. Her father is dominated by his pompous wife, and finds consolation in Pat’s genuine qualities. Part pursues a hopeless passion for Tony, who courts Grace. At a dinner partv and dance he is cut out by Billy Caldwell of the Oil Caldwell’s, whose wealth and social standing excuse his foolish pranks. But Pat determines to make herself so fascinating that she will not be overlooked, and thereupon hangs the tale. Included in the cast of funmakers in “The Patsy” are Marie Dressier. Jane Winton, Orville Caldwell, Del Henderson and Lawrence Gray. Agnes Christine Johnston handled the adaptation from the famous stage play of the same name. A full supporting programme will also be shown, including another issue of the popular Majestic News,” an enjoyable comedy and a cartoon. Mr. J. Whiteford-Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra will again demonstrate its artistry in the interpretation of the musical side of the programme. An excellently varied selection of music has been chosen to accompany “The Patsy.” On Monday evening next Fred Mayfield’s Cowboy Band will make its first New Zealand appearance at the Majestic. This band has created a furore wherever it has appeared, in Canada and America, and is sure to repeat its success with Majestic patrons.
