Behind the glistening facets of a diamond often lurks dissension, intrigue, mystery and fcragedy. History reveals possessors of the Golconda, the Orlogg and the Hope, of more recent memory, as far from happy individuals. Such a stone figures conspicuously in “Diamond Handcuffs.” Its lure precipitates a grim battle with machine guns between police and outlaws in an American city, and the action shifts from the upper social strata to the underworld, from South Africa, to New York’s Park Avenue. The cast is notable, including Eleanor Boardman, Conrad Nagel, Lawrence Gray and Sam Hardy.
