PERSONAL. —The Kairanga was recommissioned at Wellington on Wednesday under command of Captain J. G. Watson. His deck officers are the following:—Chief, Mr. G. W. Godfrey; second, Mr. R. C. Ingram; third, Mr. L. B. Thomas.
Captain F. L. G. Jaunay has been appointed to command of the Kaponga, relieving Captain W. Wliitefield for his holidays. Mr. S. W. Plodson has joined the Tofua as second officer, relieving Mr. B. F. Fisher, who has proceeded to Wellington to receive orders. . . Mr. S. H. Crawford has rejoined the Kaiwarra as third officer, relieving Mr. E. R. Pate, who is awaiting instructions at Wellington. Mr. T. Dee, second officer of the Otokia, hcis left the vessel, having resigned from the Union Company’s service. THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER.— The Canadian Government steamer Canadian Challenger, which left Auckland on July 14 for New York, Boston and Montreal, is reported to have reached Quebec last Sunday. PORT DARWIN LEAVES LIVERPOOL. —Cabled news lias been received by the C. and D. Line that the Port Darwin, sailed from Liverpool on Sunday with general cargo to discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland on October 14. HALERIC IN PORT.—En route from Makatea Island to Australia, the Weir steamer Haleric arrived in the stream at Auckland at half-past eleven this morning to replenish her bunkers. Spedding, Ltd., are acting as the local agents, and they hope to get the vessel on her way again to-morrow evening. CARGO FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA. —The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Kaituna, from Adelaide, Edithburg and Wallaroo, leaves Melbourne to-morrow for Dunedin, Lyttelton. Wellington and Auckland. She is expected to reach here on September 22. WESTMORELAND REPORTS. According to a radio message received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Federal steamer Westmoreland is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at 4 o’clock on Sunday afternoon from London. The vessel is bringing general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington and Bluff. BENTON DlVEßTED.—Henderson and Macfarlane have been advised that the steamer Benton, which has been barbound outside Westport, berthed there yesterday, and sails to-day for Nauru Island to load phosphates for New Zealand or Australia. Originally the vessel was to proceed to Ocean Island to load again for Auckland.
lONIC LEAVES BALBOA.—Cabled advice has been received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company that its liner lonic left Balboa on Sunday evening for Wellington and Auckland, en route from London and Southampton. The vessel is due at Wellington on September 21, and at Auckland a week later.
THE CANADIAN HIGHLANDER.— cCabled news has been received by the Canadian National Steamships that the Canadian Highlander arrived at Panama Canal last Wednesday from Auckland and sailed again on Friday for New York, Boston and Montreal. The vessel left Auckland on August 1.

MARGARET W TO DiSCHARGE.-The four-masted auxiliary schooner Murpiret ■\V on route from Lyttelton to \\ hangarei. was sighted in the Hauraki Gulf yesterday. From AVhangarei the vessel is to go to Thames, and Gisborne to complete unloading: general cargo. ISLAND FRUIT STEAMER WAIPAHI.—Advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the Island fruit steamer Waipalii sailed from Rarotonga at 4 p.m. last .Monday for Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday. CARGO FROM M ONTRE AL.-»-A cable message to the Canadian National Steamships reports that the Canadian Winner sailed from Montreal on August 111 with general cargo to discharge at Auckland and W.ellington. The vessel is due at Auckland on October 14. COPTICS LANDING PORTS.—The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s new motor-ship Coptic, which is unloading cargo from Great Britain at Southern ports, will load for her Homeward voyage at Gladstone. Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, and probably Portland. MANUKA LEAVES MELBOURNE.— Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the’ Manuka left Melbourne at 10.20 a.m. bn Tuesday for Wellington direct. She is due there on Sunday, and will leave next Tuesday for Melbourne, via Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. PORT DARWIN’S AGENTS.—Heather. Roberton, Limited, have been advised that the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Darwin, which left Liverpool last Saturday with West of England cargo for discharge at Auckland. Wellington Lyttelton and Dunedin, is due here on October 14, and will discharge under their agency. REMUERA’S MOVEMENTS. The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the liner Remuera leaves Lyttelton to-day for Wellington and Auckland to fill up for Home. She is due here next Monday and is scheduled to sail finally from this port on Saturday, September 15, for Southampton and London, via Panama. PORT BOWEN FOR HOME.—The C. and P. Line advises that the steamer Port Bowen is expected to leave Wanganui to-day for London and West of England ports, via Panama. Mesdames Cave and Baker, of Auckland, are accompanying the ship as passengers. Dr. V. R. Nicholson, of Wellington, is proceeding as ship’s surgeon.
SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE.— The Makura will leave Sydney at 4 p.m. to-day for San Francisco, via Wellington Rarotonga and Papeete, and is due at Wellington on Monday morning. The Maunganui left San Francisco yesterday for Sydney, via Papeete. Rarotonga and Wellington. She is due at Papeete on September 15 and at Wellington on September 24.
MAH AN A COMPLETING.—The Shaw. Savill, and Albion steamer Mahana arrived from Waikokopu last evening, and berthed at Queen’s Wharf this morning to complete loading produce and general cargo for England. At five o’clock on Saturday evening she is to be dispatched for London, via. Montevideo and Teneriffe. A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., are the local agents. lONIC CLEARED BALBOA.—The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner lonic is reported to have cleared Balboa last Sunday in continuation of her voyage from London and Southampton. The vessel Is bringing passengers for New Zealand and cargo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Wellington on September 24, and at Auckland a week later.
CANADIAN TRANSPORTER REPORTS.—Wireless advice from the Canadian Government steamer Canadian Transporter states she will arrive from Montreal at midnight .to-morrow night. She has general merchandise and motorcars from Canada for discharge at Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. A berth has not yet been arranged for the vessel.
THE BARON INCHCAPE.—En route from Montreal to New Zealand, the Baron Inchcape is reported to have cleared Newport News last Sunday. The vessel is running under the auspices of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Eastern Canadian service, and is bringing general merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Welllington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. . She is due at Auckland about October 4. PORT NAPIER'S GENERAL AVERAGE.—The outbreak of fire on the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Napier resulted in more damage being done to the cargo than was thought. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company has received advice that a. general average of SO per cent, has been declared. The vessel is now expected to reach Auckland next Monday. GALLIC DELAYED.—L. D. Nathan and Company have been advised that the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Gallic has been delayed slightly at Wanganui and will now leave there tomorrow for Wellington, thence Napier, Gisborne and Auckland, to complete her loading. She is due here on September 17. and it is hoped to dispatch her finally from this port on September 19 for New York. Boston, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via Panama.
CARGO FROM THE EAST.—The Union Company’s Indian trader Sussex is scheduled to reach Auckland next Monday. The vessel is bringing Eastern produce from Calcutta, Penang, Singapore, and Samarang, for discharge at Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. Also running under tne auspices of the Union Conipanv, the British India Company’s steamer Hatkola is due at Auckland -from Calcutta, Rangoon, and Singapore, via Sydney, on September 23. After unloading a quantity of Eastern produce at Auckland, she will go to Wellington to complete discharge.
COASTAL SCHOONER BUILDING. A new auxiliary schooner of approximately 100- tons is being built at the yards of Mr. George Xiecol for the coastal trade round Auckland. In her general appearance the new vessel follows tlm ordinal"'* type of flat-bottomed, round-bilged craft plying between Auckland and East Co* l "' ports. The chief difference lies in tI.T--shape of the stern, which is specially designed to give her increased speed and seaworthiness, combined with bigger cabin space. There is a raised poop aft and a flush deck for’ard. Her dimensions are, length 96ft. beam 25ft. depth Sft. She will be diagonally built, with one small centreboard, fust the foremast. Two 100 h.p. full Diesel engines will be installed, and these are expected to give the vessel a speed of 10 knots when fully loaded. TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO SERVICE.— The Waihemo, from Melbourne, arrived at Sydney at 10 p.m. on Monday, and will clear Newcastle to-day for Vancouver. via Fiji. to load during October for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. The Wairuna en route from Pacific Coast, cleared Papeete on Tuesday morning for Auckland, and will go thence to Napier, Lyttelton. Dunedin and New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland on Septenibei* 34. The Waiotapu left Los Angeles at 9.C0 p.m. on Sunday last for Wellington. Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Wellington on September 28. The Waikawa, from San Francisco, arrived at Los Angeles at 3 0 a.m. on Monday, and will proceed thence to Apia. Auckland. Nelson, Bluff, Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Apia on September 20 and at Auckland on September 30. The Hauraki, from Ocean Falls, via Powell River, will clear Vancouver on September S for San Francisco direct, and thence to Los Angeles on September 14 to complete loading for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. The Waitemata left Suva on August 25 for Vancouver, and is to go from that port to San Francisco to load for Napier. Lyttelton, Dunedin, Nelson. New Plymouth, and probably Bluff if there is sufficient inducement. She is due at Vancouver on September 15. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE— The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations to-night:— Auckland.—Aorangi, Maui Pomare, H.M.S. Dunedin, Ivanna, H.M.S. Veronica, Nucula, Canadian Transporter. Port Napier, Canadian Britisher, Westmoreland, Waipahi, Sussex. Chatham Islands.—Northumberland Port Dunedin. Wellington.—Maori, Wahine, Ngaio, Arahura, Gallic, Kaiwarra, Niagara, Port Bowen, Manuka, Remuera, Coptic, Trevorian, Andrea, Kalingo. Awarua.— Makura, Maunganui, Pakeha. Papanui. .
