HOUSE DESTROYED

FIRE AT NEW LYNN TWO BRIGADES TURN OUT About nine o’clock last evening a six-roomed house at the corner of Astley Avenue and Gardner Road, New Lynn, was burned to the ground. The house was owned and occupied by Mr. L. Malam. The alarm was given at about ten minutes to nine and the Avondale and Point Chevalier branches of the City Fire Brigade answered the call. By that time the house was well alight and all the brigades could do was to make sure that the flames did not spread to neighbouring buildings. The house was insured for £BOO in the Alliance Office, and the contents £275 in the Royal Exchange Office.
