MR. GEORGE SWINBURNE, M.L.C.

(United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Received 10.45 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. The death occurred suddenly in Parliament of Mr. George Swinburne, M.L.C., prominent in public life, aged 67.

Mr. George Swinburne was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, in 1861, and arrived in Australia in ISB6. He rendered great public service by his work in connection with the irrigation policy, and introduced the Acts which nationalised the waters in the rivers and streams of the State. He was foi- many years associated with big commercial undertakings.
