WESTFIELD STOCK SALE
EASIER TONE IN BEEF • A shorter aggregate yarding of beef at Westfield to-day met with a market which held practically on a par with late rates. In both the ox and cow beef sections, however, there was not quite’ the strength shown at late sales. Although drawn from most parts of the province, the quality of the yarding was well below the high standard set last week. This was particularly noticeable in the cow and heifer section where there was a big percentage of very mediocre quality cattle forward. While auctioneers’ quotations for ox beef are sustained at up to 465, there was an easier tone in the market. This trend was given greater prominence by the fact that the buyer for one of the biggest butchering firms practically withdrew from the market. Top price of the day was secured for a line of four local bullocks which made £22. Big boned not exceptionally prime bullocks on account Short, Matamata, made to £2l. Fourteen medium to heavy-weight hulocks on account C\ Hemmings, Tirau. made to £l9 17s 6d. H.
