WORST OF THE DEAL
TT7HEN Jewel Pointer and Ahuriri met in the Auckland Cup last December they were on the same peg—4.2s. Ahuriri never gave the Aucklander a look in at any part of the journey and won Handsomely, while the local pacing artist was not in the picture. Since that date Ahuriri, who has two New Zealand Cup victories to his credit, has been in the nursery waiting for the big November heat, while Jewel Pointer has been chasing some of the best in the land and making a rod for his own back by gathering up place money. Why the Aucklander should get the worst of the deal in the handicap for coming into the open is past comprehension.
