POWER FLOWS AGAIN
WORK AT HORAHORA NON-ESSENTIAL LOADS TO BE CUT OUT (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Monday. Work at Horohora hydro-electric works has resulted In one transformer being brought into commission, and this evening it was possible to transmit 800 kilowatts to Cambridge. This was the first power to be available from the station since the fire. An additional transformer should be in working order to-night, and, provided the lines are satisfactory, power will be restored to the Thames Valley area. It is expected a further 3,000 kilowatts will be available on Thursday. The electrical branch of the Public Works Department advises that the position of the power supply in Auckland Province is as follows: —The power supply on Monday morning to consumers exceeded 9,000 kilowatts from all sources, but it will not be possible to continue to supply this amount, and steps must be taken to reduce the load. The only way by which the department can reduce it is by cutting-out feeders at the different substations, which will cut off both the essential and non-essential load. This can be avoided if the different supply authorities will arrange to cut off any non-essential load. All heating load should be cut off and all hot plates. Where no other method for cooking, except by electricity is available, then electric ovens may still be used for the nreseaL
