ROADS IN THE PROVINCE

REPORT BY A.A.A. The condition of the Pokeno-Pae-roa road has considerably improved, particularly that section taken over by the Waikato County from the Whangamarino Road Board. Repairs are urgently required on either side of the Mangatangi River bridge, where recent floods have caused the surface to break. Near Netherton, where a stopbank is being erected the depth of shingle provides a menace to motor traffic. The shingle, although fine, lias the same effect as the big metal which was used until recently on the Rangiriri Deviation. The A.A.A. is communicating with the Public Works Department with a view to having this danger minimised. The Piako County Council is now constructing fine roads, and at a recent meeting of the A.A.A. in Te Aroha, the members spoke in appreciation of the work being done by ihe new engineer, Mr. Horner. Mile posts have recently been erected from Te Aroha to the southern boundary of the county. Credit is also due to the Paeroa Borough Council, and particularly to the Mayor, Mr. W. Marshall, who has superintended the work, for the excellent surfaced roads which the borough now provides.
