TO HOUSE WINTER SHOW
PERMANENT BUILDING WANTED MANUFACTURERS’ DECISION Temporary buildings for the winter show cost the Manufacturers’ Association nearly £3,000 for the winter exhibition and its share of the profits was only £1,900 or £2,000. These figures have convinced the association that permanent show buildings should be acquired by the Exhibition Trust. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association is to be asked to speed up the formation of the Trust. At the meeting of the Manufacturers’ Association yesterday, Mr. J. A. C. Allum said that the A. and P. Association should be asked to act as soon as possible. Its support was valuable, but if co-operation could not be obtained, the manufacturers would have to proceed in the matter alone. It was a reproach to the Manufacturers’ Association to spend so much money in unremunerative expenditure. The president, Mr. G. Finn, stated he had inspected the railway workshops site in Newmarket. The association could not easily find land for its purpose, while the present buildings at the workshops were very suitable for show displays. Mr. H. H. Sterling, the general manager of railways, had promised to give the association’s request every consideration.
