ST. JAMES THEATRE

REVUE STILL IN SEASON A joyous programme is being presented this week at St. James Theatre by the League of Notions Revue Company. The company has now, through the merit of its work, established itself strongly in public favour, and people who now want a good night’s entertainment, know where to go. The show, a clever blend of differing vaudeville elements, is full of originality and brightness. More idiotic comedians than Syd Beck and Ernie Paulasto would be difficult to find, yet their superb fatuity is the surest sign of comic talent. They set the house roaring time and again with their riotous quips. Spirited contribution to the entertainment is made by Linn Smith’s jazz band, which is as good as. and better than, any similar musical combination that has come to Auckland. Their melodies set feet dancing in sympathy. Miss Queenie Paul and Mike Connors are versatile artists, who keep the audience amused in songs and sketches. Miss Paul’s beautiful voice, and Mr. Connors’s patter accompaniment, in such numbers as “Breeze” and “Brokenhearted,” made instantaneous appeal. The dancing of Valerie Rougel and Bert Rayne is a feature of the excellent show, and a word of praise must go to the Exquisite Six for their excellent ballets. The notions of the company will entertain again this evening.
