BOY PIANIST
SUCCESS IN AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND TOUR ORGANISED Although only 16 years of age, Shura Cherkassky .has startled the world with his piano playing. . . This morning he arrived by the Ulimaroa from Sydney, in company with Mr. E. J. Gravestock, the entrepreneur, who has organised a New Zealand tour for the young pianist. Shura is enthusiastic about Australia, where he has enjoyed a wonderful success. With his parents he arrived in America from war-ridden Russia. His
mother had been a teacher at the Odessa Conservatorium. but because of privations and suffering the family decided to leave their home. In New York Shura carried on his studies and finally won th capproval of public and critics by his astonishing playing. Among his friends the young pianist numbers Paderewski, Rachmaninoff and Josef Hofmann, who have all assisted him to continue his studies. The New Zealand tour will be opened in Christchurch. The Auckland dates have not yet been fixed.
