MARCONIS AND MERGER
CANADIAN COMPANY MAY JOIN (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) MONTREAL, Saturday. The Montreal correspondent of the British United Press Association says it is understood that there is a likelihood that the Canadian Marconi Company will enter the British merger between the Eastern Cable Company and the Marconi Wireless Company. It is understood that there will be a meeting in Ottawa next week between the ex-Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, Sir Campbell Stua.rt, Canadian representative on the Pacific Cable Board, and officials of the Canadian Pacific and the Canadian National Railways, to discuss the whole future of the merger. It Is presumed an effort will be made to explain to Mr. MacDonald the position of the Canadian Government, in order to ensure the withdrawal of the Labour Party’s opposition to the merger. The officials of the Canadian Marconi Company in Montreal refuse to Comment on the matter.
