University Team Returns by Tofua
“HEAT KNOCKED US”
Laden with baskets, widebrimmed native hats, gaily-col-'oured leis, and samples of the dozen and one souvenirs dear to the hearts of tourists, the members of the University football team filed down the gangway of the Tofua this morning.
For the past three weeks the Varsity players have been pitting themselves against teams at Fiji. • “As a team we have had little success, but as holiday-makers we have enjoyed a wonderful time,” said one in summing up the tour to a Sun representative.
The party numbered 20, and Mr. G. L. O’Halloran travelled as manager. In all four matches were played—three against Fiji representative teams and one against the second team. The first rep. game lost by the visitors by 3 points to 12. They defeated the seconds by II to 10, and drew in the second rep. game, there being no score. The last game resulted in a win for Fiji by 8 to nil. “The games were all very close and exciting,’* said Mr. O'Halloran, “but in the end the heat ‘knocked* our chaps. The people gave us a great time, but we struck a lot of rain during our stay.’* ~;
