CHICKENS BURNED IN BROODER-HOUSE
FIRE AT PAPATOETOE BUCKET BRIGADE’S GOOD WORK (From Our Own Correspondent) PAPATOETOE, To-day. A brooder-house on the property of Mr. N. Roulston, Wallace Road, Papatoetoe, was found to be on fire at 4 a.m., yesterday by Mr. Gow, a nextdoor neighbour, and some 200 young chickens were burned. A bucket brigade was formed by early arrivals at the fire, and the flames were confined to thb brooderhouse and wash-house. The sevenroomed wooden residence, occupied by Mr. Roulston, was not damaged. The Papatoetoe Fire Brigade attended, with Deputy-Superintendent Stokes in charge, and did good work. The cause of the outbreak is attributed to one of the lamps in the brooder-house becoming overheated. The washhouse and contents were insured in the Royal Insurance Company for £l5O. The brooder-house was not insured. Mr. Roulston estimates the loss as being in the vicinity of £250.
