Cottage Destroyed A fire at Hokitika early on Sunday morning destroyed a cottage’ occupied by Charles Friend. There was no one in the building at the time of the outbreak. Bus Driver Burned "When Neilson’s motor-bus was returning to Norsew« late on Saturday night, it L ;. st into llames owing to a backfire. The only person in the bus was Mr. Xoilson. who was driving. He had great difficulty in opening a door and making his escape, and is now in hospital at Ormondville, suffering from burns about the face, hands and legs, and from Presentation to Manager Mr. W. J. Marks, who has been manager of the Auckland Meat Company for the past 20 years, has resigned to take up h position with \V. and R. Fletcher. Limited. He was presented, last week, by employees of the company with a gold watch, and lie and Mrs. Marks received a set of easy chairs, also presented by the employees.
