MOTOR HITS CENTRE-POLE
DRIVER BADLY INJURED CRASH IN HOBSON STREET About 10 o’clock last evening a four-seater motor-car driven by Mr. Frank Holliday, whose address was given as the Warkworth Hotel, collided with a centre-pole in Hobson Street. The driver received severe head injuries and had to be taken to hospital by the St. John Ambulance. The car was going toward Newton when it struck the pole directly oppos- ! it© St. Matthew’s Hall. The windscreen was smashed and the chassis badly crumpled, especially on the offside in front of the driver’s seat, where the car hit the pole. Mr. Holliday, who was the only person in the car, was pulled out in a dazed condition, and covered with blood. Temporary dressings were put on by the St. John Ambulance, and he was then rushed to hospital. Last evening his condition was serious, but this morning he is reported to be recovering satisfactorily.
