Women’s golf associates here agree with Miss Oliver Kay that golf handicaps in New Zealand are too flattering. New Zealand players in handicap events at the recent Australian championships suffered thereby. The handicaps here are revised every two years, but no player’s mark is ever moved up more than six strokes. Prominent officials consider that a general tightening up of handicapping methods is necessary in New Zealand, if visiting players are to be placed on an equal footing with Australians. HAGEN FOR AUSTRALIA U.S. RETAINS WALKER CUP (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (United Service) Reed. 10.26 a.m. CHICAGO, Friday. The United States retained the Walker Cup in golf. Torrance defeated Evans, one up. It was the only British victory in eight matches to-day. Jones defeated Perkins, 13 and 12. Walter Hagen announced that he will sail from San Francisco on October 20 on a golf tour of Australia.
