TE KUITI CLUB

MR. H. ROTHERY NEW PRESIDENT (Special to THE SUN) TE KUITI, Friday. The annual meeting and reunion of members of thO Te Kuiti Racing Club was held in the Municipal Hall on Thursday evening, the president, Mr. A. F. Howarth, presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. J. W. Cochrane and D. Kennedy. Mr. Howarth, m caning for nominations for the presidency, said he did not intend seeking nomination again for the position. After an association extending over 20 years, during which period he had acted in various capacities, including the secretaryship at the club’s inception in 1908, and the presidency for about ten years, he felt that someone should be appointed to the position who could devote the time and interest warranted. After various eulogistic references to the retiring president’s work on behalf of the club, Mi*. B. Brewer’s motion that Mr. Howarth be elected a life member was carried unanimously. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. H. Rothery; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. F. Howarth, W. Hogg and .7. F. Vercoe; committee, Messrs. A. Black, J. W. Cochrane, O. A. Dalziell and C. Harrison. Mr. Rothery moved that Rule 40 be rescinded and substituted by a rule requiring candidates for the positions of president, vice-presidents and committee, be proposed in writing by two members and the proposal deposited with the secretary at least 14 days before the date of the annual meeting. The motion was carried. At the conclusion of the business, the retiring president made a presentation, on behalf of the committee, to Mr. H. Rothery, in recognition of the latter’s invaluable services to the club, and particularly for his work in connection with the Ellerslie meeting, for it was from him that this suggestion had originated. The presen-

tation took the form of a handsome tea service. Mr. Rothery, in returning thanks, trusted that he would give the same satisfaction to the club as Mr. Howarth had rendered.
