NEWS OF THE FLIGHT
RADIO REBROADCAST FROM THE SUN OFFICE PROM the time of the Southern Cross’s take-off at Sydney—about 7.30 tonight, New Zealand time—four loud-speakers installed at The Sun office will inform Auckland of the flyers’ proj gress. i ! Two of the loud-speakers will broadcast into Wyndham Street and two into Albert Street, so that a big crowd of people may be kept informed of the latest news. The description of the take-off in Sydney will be received from 2BL, Sydney, and then the progress news of the flight will be picked up from New Zealand stations, which will be decoding the morse messages of the plane. The re-broadcast will continue until a late hour. On Sunday morning The Sun’s apparatus will resume the re-broadcast at 9 a.m. and continue until the Southern Cross has landed at Christchurch. For the benefit of those not in the vicinity of the office, an Australian Red Ensign will be run up on the flagpole of The Sun as soon as the flyers reach New Zealand. The Press Association lias arranged with the Telegraph Department to distribute the news of the arrival of the Tasman flyers in the same way as football results. being faced by grave difficulties in landing should they, through any cause, Arrive after darkness has fallen, a powerful searchlight from Port Dorset, Wellington, has been installed at Wigram Airdrome. The searchlight was sent to Christchurch at the instance of the local committee, which had discussed the possibility of a night landing. It will be great assistance to the aviators in the event of them taking off by night Dn their return flight to Australia.
