FOUGHT TO SAVE BOY
AUSTRALIAN TO RESCUE S.M. APPROVES ACTION The charge against William Lambert, an Australian, aged 36, who was moved to direct action by the sight of a boy being abused by a drunken man was dismissed at the Police Court this morning. Lambert was charged with fighting in Queen Street and Sergeant Clist said that when he arrested Lambert the other man in the quarrel got away. Prisoner had denied that he was the agressor though he was being urged on by the crowd. A youth employed at the Clarendon Hotel said that the other man had been insulting a barmaid who had asked witness to tell him to leave the the hotel. At this the other man broke into abusive language and threatened witness, after which Lambert had intervened, being struck for bis pains. There was no doubt that the other man had started the fight, Lambert merely defending himself. I Corroborative evidence was given bv r ’Lambert’s companion who said that he .recognised the aggressor in the fight as a man named O’Shea, whom he had *nce met in the North. “You had better look for him,” said 3r. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to Sub-Inspector 3c Carthy.
