REFRIGERATORS FOR ALL
By FAITH FOSTER. “I wish I had sufficient larder space for a refrigerator,” is the sort of pathetic remark one hears from time to time from housewives who fail to keep themselves up to date with inventions for the small home and flat. To-day there is no home, however restricted in regard to accommodation, which may not enjoy the luxury of a refrigerator. The latest model is in the form of a sideboard or a cupboard, and it can stand in a sitting-room without exciting comment. These new refrigerators are gas-actuated, bringing about icy coldness on the new principle which begins its job by the generation of heat—a paradoxical state of affairs, but a very effectual one. For the housewife who has electricity a refrigerator may be worked at the expenditure of a remarkably small amount of current. But it is not absolutely essential to bring electricity to one’s aid, for the new refrigeration without ice can, if necessary, he brought about by means of heat generated by an oil-stove. These machines work with an automatic control so that economy Is secured.
