RAINBOW FAIR DEVONPORT METHODISTS' JUBILEE A Jubilee Rainbow Fair was held by t the Devonport Methodist Church iii the schoolroom yesterday afternoon The fair was opened by the Mayor oi' Devonport, Mr. E. Aldridge, who was accompanied by Mrs. Aldridge. Handkerchief Stall.—Miss Jean Taylor and girls of the Intermediate Bible Class. Cakes.—Mrs. Roberts and Sunday School teachers. Afternoon Tea.—Mrs. B. Clark, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Timmons and Miss Smith. Competitions which were played in the evening were arranged by the boys' Bible class. FANCY DRESS DANCE CROQUET CLUB AFFAIR A canopy of red and white streamers was used with striking effect at the Ho wick Public Hall on Thursday evening, when a plain and fancy dress ball ; was held under the auspices of the ' Howick Croquet Club. The walls were i flecked with feathery fronds of native : greens, and masses of arum lilies and j red geraniums decorated the stage. A delightful programme of musical j numbers was supplied by Miss Beryl i Poulton and party, and extras were played by Mrs. Wyatt and Miss Connie \ Christmas. Mr. P. L. Armitage was ( master of ceremonies. The arrange- ; ments for the function were in the ! hands of a women’s committee headed : by Mrs. Arnold Jones, president. The supper-room was attractive with red and white anemones and trails of asparagus fern. Over two hundred dancers attended and the difficult task j of judging the many quaint and pretty j dresses was in the hands of Miss K. | Lishman and Mr. George Hosking. The awards were as follows:—Lady’s best fancy dress, Miss Peggy Witt, as airplane girl; men’s best fanev dress, Mr. Phil Massey, as the sheik: most original lady’s costume, Mrs. Joe Roberts, as a croquet lawn; most original men’s costume, Mr. A. A. Newton, as a gentleman of the bath.
