The weather is fine and the course in good order for the New Plymouth Hunt Club race meeting, which is being held to-day. Results: LEPPERTON HUNTERS’ HURDLES Of £SO; li miles A —PIKIMAI, 9.0 1 2—IN AH MAN, 9.3 2 1— 9.7 • .... 3 Scr.: Michael, Shimose, Idarrowgate. Won by a length, three lengths between second and third. Time, 3.0 4-5. Blago and Inahman were public fancies in the Lepperton Hunters’ Hurdles, and till nearing the finish the pair were a long way clear of the field. Entering the straight for the last time they were together, but Pikimai came up fast from the back and easily cut them down to win by a length from Inahman, who beat Blago by three lengths, with Chyrria fourth. OPUNAKE SCURRY Of £9O; 5 furlongs 1 LADY QUEX, S.O 1 S—CALAI’AT, S.O 2 2LL AN ORE, 8.0 . 3 Scratched: Fipey, Pompeius, Flying Binge. Won by three lengths, a head between second and third. Time, 1.4 1-5. Boundary began best and led out from Lady Quex. Llanore, Potency and Tangerim. Lady Quex took charge on the High School bend and led to the straight, with a big break on Boundary, Llanore, Calapat and Rillet. Lady Quex won by three lengths from Calapat, who beat Llanore by a head, with Rillett and Tangerim next. HUNTERS’ MAIDEN STEEPLECHASE Of £9O; 2 miles. 3 HUIRANGI GIRL, 10.4 1 2—TRQTJBLE, 10.2 2 S—PASSPORT, 10.0 3 Scr.: Waitanehau. Liberal Lady, Flying Fran. Won by ten lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time, 4.7 1-5. Excelsior fell and Vitality was Hats Off and Trouble were favourites in the Hunters’ Alaiden Steeplechase in which another good dividend was hoisted. Vitality ran off at the stand double the first time, Excelsior ran off at the next fence and Frying Fran fell. Haurangi Girl took the lead in the last round and went right away to win very easily by a dozen lengths from Trouble, who had to be ridden out to beat Passport by two lengths. Hats Off and Hilton were next. Later Results will be found in the Stop Press as they come to hand.

ELLERSLIE TRIALS THIS MORNING'S WORK GALLOPS FOR APPROACHING MEETINGS Trainers made full use of the conditions prevailing at Ellerslie this morning, and consequently a large number of prospective Avondale candidates were galloped over various distances. Number two grass track was available. and on the whole it provided good going. Although Semi-circle was at a disadvantage with the weight he carried, he nevertheless managed to finish practically on terms with Optomistic, when the pair got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, this being the best gallop over the distance recorded. Sleepy Sol and Thursby were associated in a bout over a round in 1.54 1-5, Sleepy Sol having an advantage over liis companion at the finish. Joy Queen and Roman Pearl were going easily to register 1.9 2-5 for five furlongs, while Huephano covered the same distance comfortably, the last half-mile taking 55. Ready For Action King Emerald, with a light weight, beat Gold Money over five furlongs in 1.12 2-5. Both are in good fettle just now, but have not-yet been required to go fast. Town Teller proved too good for Lucklaine, whom he comfortably beat over five furlongs in 1.8 3-5. Lucklaine is very green yet, however. Looking well, Restaurant was asked to move in easy fashion over a round, taking 1.56 3-5 for the journey. All going well Restaui'ant will race at Wanganui this month. Segment, another Wanganui candidate, moved nicely over three furlongs in 40. Once again Sir Archie was responsible for a good gallop, this time over a round, in 1.51, the last six furlongs taking 1.22, and the last three 41. lie began slowly, but the pace was increased with each furlong, and he was bowling along very freely at the conclusion of the effort. Fernden moved over five furlongs in 1.8 2-5, and appeared to be doing it well. Welkne was the first to work after breakfast, and he covered six furlongs in 1.22, going nicely throughout. Smart Juveniles The tliree-year-olds. Sir Russell and Avon Court, again displayed plenty of speed in slipping over six furlongs in 1.20 2-5, the initial three furlongs taking 40. There was not much between them at the end, and their effort must be regarded as highly satisfactory. Template and Double Mint were in company over half a mile, registering 55. Red Lion, War Officer and Brampton were associated in a task over six furlongs, but the finish was left to Red Lion and War Officer, who were on terms, with Brampton well back. The trio covered the journey in 1.21 2-5. the first three furlongs taking 40 2-5. Sulla and Ivillute jumped off at the six furlong post, and at the five were joined by Parfait Amour, the lastnamed having little difficulty in finishing in advance of his companions. Sulla, who was ahead of Ivillute, ran the six furlongs in 1.21, Parfait Amour occupying 1.7 4-5 for his journey. The jumper, Pekatahi, travelled over a round, taking 1.55 1-5 for the distance. Yaqui, who has been doing well lately, was restricted to a three furlong sprint, showing plenty of speed by registering 3S 4-5. Although only asked to go at an easy pace, Corinax showed to better advantage than The Lover in a task extending over a round in 1.54 1-5. A Fast’ Six An attractive effort went down to the credit of Good Boy. who moved in great style over six furlcngs to record 1.19 3-5, Golden Krist previously taking 1.23 for a similar task. Blue Spear gave Winsome Girl and Valquette a start in a gallop over half a mile, but notwithstanding Blue Spear was on terms with the pair at the end, the journey taking 54 4-5, the initial furlong occupying 12 4-5. Several other gallops were clocked, and horses to register slower times than those mentioned above were: Four furlongs: Te Money, Winsome Boy, Master Doon, Mon Star, Yum Yum and Freja. Five furlongs: Lineroo, Myola, Bombarder and Piet. Six furlongs: Lomint, Wye, Bulolo, Monetize and The Fox. Schooling Work Master Clements (Young) gave a satisfactory exhibition over several pony hurles. Occasionally he jumped rather high, but nevertheless it was a pleasing display. Llewellyn (E. Garrett), Quincoma (R. Olive) and Glenotus (J. Sharkey) completed a round of the schooling hurdles safely. Llewellyn gave a better display than did the other pair, who were allowed to take their fences rather slowly. Quincoma subsequently galloped an easy six furlongs. Interest was centred in Importer (J. Sharkey), Clockwork (R. Olive), Potoanui (Burgess), and Kyoto (E. Garrett), when the quartet wended their way to the sod-wall, preparatory to jumping the steeplechase fences on the flat. There were no mishaps, and no candidate ever appeared to be in danger of falling. This was Kyoto’s first schooling lesson since he was recently recommissioned. and but for hitting one or two of the fences rather hard, he jumped splendidly. Clockwork’s rider. Olive, lost a stirrup-iron at the stand double, but, notwithstanding, the stone-wall was successfully negotiated. After pace-work on the tan, the recruits, with the exception of Clockwork, were again schooled over the fences, giving a safe exhibition.
