Obituary
MRS. MARGARET M. TOPP The death of Mrs. Margaret Mary Josephine Topp occurred at her daughter’s home, Mount Eden Road, on Thursday. Mrs. Topp’s parents came from Dublin in 1843 and she was born during the voyage. For many years she lived in the Northern Wairoa district, where her husband, the late Mr. William B. Topp, owned a farm. CAPTAIN A. A. CRAPP VETERAN OF MAORI WAR Captain Arthur Algernon Crapp died this morning at Tauranga, aged 86 years. He was a Maori War veteran and took part in many engagements. He is survived by an adult family. He will be buried to-morrow in the old military cemetery and will be given a military funeral. MRS. JANE WRIGHT An early Albertland settler, Mrs. Jane Wright, died at her home, Clonbern Road, Remuera, yesterday at the age of 88. Born in Derbyshire. England, Mrs. Wright came to New Zealand, arriving at Auckland with her first husband, Mr. Jesse Davis, in the ship Matilda Wattenbach, in 1562, proceeding immediately to the Paparoa settlement. Six years later Mr. Davis was drowned and eight years afterwards Mrs. Davis married Mr. Edwin Wright. In 1894 Mrs. Wright removed to Kamo, where she lived with her daughter. Miss E. Davis, who was one of the first children to be born at the Paparoa settlement. After spending 17 years at Kamo Mrs. Wright came to Auckland, living here ever since. At the time of her death she was the oldest woman survivor of the Albertland pioneers and the second oldest of the Paparoa settlers, Mr. James Trounson, of North cote, being the first. Mr. Wright died three years ago. Mrs. Wright is survived by two daughters, the Misses E. and M. Davis, of Auckland.
