To-Morrow’s Soccer

CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUED

Two Open Matches THE closing stages of the championship will be advanced with the two games set down for Blandford Park tomorrow. In the preliminai’y match the Devonport rivals, Shore and Belmont, should provide a lively bout, and with a weakened forward line Y.M.C.A. will have to extend itself in the principal game to overcome Onehunga. Most interest in Soccer circles will he centred on the F.A. trophy contest at Wellington.

The final meeting between the rivals from across the harbotir should provide a lively curtain-raiser between two young teams. Shore will be without Jones and Gerrard in the defence, but have useful youngsters to fill in with. Belmont will be at full strength, and the old-time rivalry between the clubs should provide a keen game. Y.M.C.A. has been drawn on for Humphreys and Chalmers, who went South on the national trophy quest last night, but Onehunga has been weakened by recent defections, and anolifer even match is promised. Both clubs are trying out some promising junior players, and the issue is very open. Tramways, Ponsonby and Northcote are all on the resting list, Trams having contributed no less than six players to the Auckland team which meets Wellington in the Southern centre. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON The Auckland eleven was given a great send-off last evening, and there was a marked spirit of optimism in the assurances that they would “bring home the bacon,” in the shape of the handsome English trophy. Grant, of Y.M.C.A., was the only one unable to make the journey, and the inside-left berth should be ably filled by Freddie Davis, who has been showing good form with Trams this season, and has a perfect understanding with Spencer, the crack slx>t in the centre. Bush, a promising Shore colt, went south with the team as a “spare wheel,” and Mr. Neesham, sole selector and coach, is in charge of the challengers.
