“DRY” ARGUMENT
REFERENDUM IN N.S.W. (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Thursday. The Rev. R. B. S. Hammond, president of the New South Wales Alliance, announces that he is considering applying to the High Court tomorrow for an injunction to ; restrain the chief electoral officer from holding the liquor referendum. The grounds of the proposed action, as alleged by Mr. Hammond, are that the liquor interests in to-day’s newspapers published an advertisement which could be read as an official announcement, with the electoral officer’s signature attached, advising the electors to vote against prohibition, and that the advertisements are not signed by the advertisers, as required by the Electoral Act.
